TUÑÓN ARCHITECTS is a Madrid-based office that originated in 2012 as a natural transition from Mansilla+Tuñón Architects. It concerns itself with the contemplations that result from the confrontation of theoretical and academic practice with the design and building activity.

Emilio Tuñón (1959) is an architect by the E.T.S.A.M (1981), Ph.D (2000) and Chair Professor of the Architectural Design Department in Madrid’s School of Architecture. He has been awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2014, the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2007, the Contemporary Architecture European Union Award in 2003 as well as the FAD award in 2001, 2007 and 2011. In 2018 Emilio Tuñón was elected a RIBA International Fellow by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Emilio Tuñón currently combines his work as an architect with his academic career as a Chair Professor of the Architectural Design Department in the E.T.S.A.M. Additionally, he has taught as a guest professor at several other universities, including at Princeton University School of Architecture (spring of 2008, 2009 and 2010), Harvard Graduate School of Design (spring of 2006), Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (spring of 2005), Barcelona International Architecture School (2001-2002), Frankfurt Städelschule (1997-1998), Architecture San Pablo CEU Foundation (2000-2001), Barcelona Architecture School (1999-2000), New Puerto Rico Architecture School (summer of 2000) and Navarra Architecture School (spring of 1999 and 2011).

TUÑÓN ARCHITECTS have won the following architecture competitions: first prize in the international competition for the Masterplan of Kalaja and Turres Port in Albania (2014); first prize in the international competition for a Down Town District Residential Tower in Dubai (2013); first prize in the international competition for the New Gastro-Pavilion in ETH in Zurich (2013); first prize in the international competition for the Dome of Wine in Valbuenda of Duero (2012); first prize in the international competition for the International Center of Visigothic Culture in Toledo (2010); first prize in the international competition for the Energy Dome in the Environmental City in Soria (2008); first prize in the international competition for the C.I.C.C.M, International Congress Center of Madrid (2007); first prize in the international competition for the Museum of Migrations in Algeciras (2007); first prize in the international competition for the Helga de Alvear Foundation in Cáceres (2005); first prize in the international competition for the Lalín City Hall (2004); first prize in the international competition for Urban Planning for Valbuena in Logroño (2004); first prize in the international competition for the Royal Collection Museum (2002); first prize for the Public Library in Calle de los Artistas in Madrid (2003); first prize in the international competition for the Museum of Cantabria in Santander (2002); first prize in the international competition for the Sanfermines Museum in Pamplona (2001); first prize in the international competition for the Cultural Center in Brescia (2000); first prize in the international competition for the Castellón Fine Arts Museum (1998); first prize in the international competition for the Concert Hall in León (1996); and first prize in the international competition for the Regional Cultural Center of Madrid, “El Águila” (1995).
