PROJECT

SINT-LUCAS 2013

In its initial form, the project for the Hogeschool St Lucas in Gent consisted of an overall masterplan for the campus, the renovation of several existing buildings and their associated outdoor spaces and the design of two new buildings. Ultimately only the new atelier building and the renovations were realized. The architectural concept of the atelier building is that of a series of stacked horizontal, double height boxes. The boxes are alternatingly rotated to align and compliment the urban context. As the boxes shift, natural light falls into the boxes from above, providing daylight for the studio workspace inside. From the street, the exposed concrete boxes span monumentally between the two adjacent existing buildings.
